Stage 5 - November 8: Tuatapere - Winton (Winton Hotel, Bottom Pub), 88.3 km
Roulston back as challenger in Tour of Southland

Greg Henderson went into the 88 kilometer stage today more than six minutes down on tour leader Aaron Strong but he seized an opportunity when Geoff Burndred made a break thirty kilometers from the finish at Winton. Henderson and good mate Hayden Roulston quickly joined the Rabobank rider and the trio took the lead out to just over a minute.
The former track Madison stars offloaded Burndred eight kilometers from the finish and Henderson went on to take the Stage win. Henderson played down his win in the Stage and said that he was happy to help out a friend. "He obviously has a chance on GC so being a good friend of mine I'd lay it on the line for him" explained Henderson.
Roulston moved back into fifth place overall and is now only 41 seconds behind Strong. "It probably was a blessing in disguise - losing the yellow jersey yesterday," said Roulston. "It took the pressure right off us and I'm very happy with where I am now - the pressure is on them."
The day was a bad one for the Rabobank and McIntyre Dick and Partners teams. Robin Reid (Robobank) crashed on the morning stage and suffered facial injuries, putting him out of the tour, while USA-based Kiwi Jason Allen fell in the afternoon stage and broke a collarbone also putting him out. Also in the morning stage Adrian McCabe (Team Ultimo) crashed and broke a collarbone.
The next two days of the Tour see the toughest two stages. Tomorrow the riders face the 134 km stage from Lumsden which finishes on the summit of the Crown Mountain range near Queenstown. On Friday they ride the 163 km stage from Winton to the tourist resort at Te Anau. This is the stage that was stopped last year due to gale force winds and on which Gordon McCauley controversially took over the yellow jersey and went on to win the tour.
