- The moto gets ready to lead out the 102-rider field
- Downtown Greenville made an attractive backdrop for a national championship road race
- In the early going TIAA CREF, with 11 riders in the pack, played an important role in keeping the tempo together.

- On the first climb - fifty riders would be dropped. In all, only 31 riders would be officially scored. Only nine would make it to the finishing circuits.

- Hincapie, Badjadali and Leipheimer. The two Pro tour riders, who will be teammates in 2007 on the Discovery Channel squad, seemed to work in concert to wear Bajadali down and set themselves up for their final one-two placings.

- Chris Wherry chased the three leaders with a group of four riders but was never able to get himself back in position to defend the championship he won last year at the final running of the Philly International Championship running of the event

- A TIAA-Cref rider behind the lead trio of Hincapie, Leipheimer, and Bajadali.
- Swindlehurst (Navigators) gets fluid near the end but it's too late for rejuvenation.
- At the end of lap 5 a motivated Hincapie (Discovery) led a trio that included Bajadali and Leipheimer.

- Leipheimer was under 15 seconds behind and absolutely flying, determined not to let Hincapie ride away with it.
