Eddy Mazzoleni's Lampre-Caffita Cannondale Six13When team-mates Gilberto Simoni and Damiano Cunego decided not to ride La Grande Boucle, Lampre-Cafitta rider Eddy Mazzoleni got his chance to prove his worth as a GC rider. The 31 year-old Italian gave a solid account of himself, finishing 13th overall 21:06 behind Lance Armstrong and finishing third on stage 16 and fifth on stage 11. Mazzoleni's Cannondale Six13 is one of the lighter frames in the peloton, with its smoothly-joined combination of aluminium and carbon fiber. Cannondale also saves weight with its own, lightweight crank design, which is now available with a built-in SRM power meter. That adds a few grams, but its weight Cannondale can afford to spend, given that the company claims a stock Six13 with Campagnolo Record components weighs less than the UCI 6.8kg limit. Cannondale has been in the vanguard of protesting that 6.8kg number, and riders on the Saeco team turned up to a stage of the 2003 Giro clad in 'Legalise my Cannondale' clothing. Cannondale's presence in the peloton this year has been a bit short of such stunts, with the Lampre-Caffita team seemingly preferring to let their riding speak for itself. It's also possible that company management has been busy with other things, such as the aquisition of Canadian clothing maker Sugoi and a recently-announced partnership with Italian shoe maker Diadora, also a sponsor of Lampre-Caffita. Mazzoleni's Six13 rolls on Mavic Cosmic Carbone wheels with a collection of running gear mostly taken from Campagnolo's Record carbon group. He sits on a fizik Aliante saddle atop a Campagnolo Record Carbon post. Up front, FSA provides steering with its OS 115 stem and 7050 handlebar.
