Stage 5 - September 3: Birmingham ITT, 4km

D-day for world champion Michael Rogers and the other time triallists in the race, who will be aiming for both a stage win and, if close enough overall, the race lead. Just one stage remains after this 4 kilometre test and so whoever holds yellow on Saturday evening knows that he has a great chance of winning the 2004 Tour of Britain.

The time trial is a technical one, with a series of tight left hand bends testing bike handling ability to the max. Fractions of a second will matter here, making it crucial that riders take exactly the right line through all the corners.
