Tour of Britain - 2.1Great Britain, August 30-September 4, 2005Main Page Results Previous Stage Next Stage Stage 2 - August 31: Carlisle - Blackpool, 160kmBy Shane Stokes The riders continue to make their way south on day two of the Tour of Britain, passing over the lumpy, leg sapping roads of the Lake District. On paper there are just two categorised climbs on the stage, but the first half of the 162.3 kilometre race is held on constantly undulating roads, providing perfect opportunity for a break to go clear. The first sprint of the day comes after 39.5 km at Shap, with the summit of Shap Fells (cat 2, 48.9 km) rearing up shortly afterwards. Sprint two at Kendal (63.7 km) comes after the descent, after which the peloton starts climbing almost immediately towards the top of Blease Hill (cat 2, 76.4 km). Another sprint at Hornby (96.5 km) begins the wind up for the finish in Blackpool, where Jay Sweet and George Hincapie took Prutour stage wins in 1998 and 1999. Stage MapStage Profile
