Welcome to Cyclingnews' Live coverage of the 2004 World Championships.
Starting off this year's competitions is the Junior Women time trial, taking
place in Bardolino, Italy. It's 22 degrees, blue skies and quite still today
in Bardolino, so it's perfect conditions for time trialling.

All time trials start and finish adjacent to the lakefront at Lago di Garda
(Lake Garda), with the Junior Women completing a distance of 15.75 kilometres.
In Treviso in 1999 it was Canadian Genevičve Jeanson who won the race by eight
seconds over Trixi Worrack.

The weather in Northern Italy is fine, with plenty of sunshine on the young
riders. Axelle Doisy (Belgium) is starting now, with the upcoming junior women
getting warmed up on the trainers.

The girls are riding at about 38 km/h on the parcours in a clockwise direction
from Bardolino (68m alt.), up to the course's highest point at Cavalon Veronise
(176m alt.). From here, they turn right, dropping downwards into Calmasino before
taking another right at Lazise (71m alt.), which brings them back along the
seafront for a fast, flat-out run back to the start/finish line via Cisano (67m
alt.).

The first rider to depart, Mayuko Hagiwara (Japan) reaches the finish with 24.38.

The junior women get into the finish fast, and the average speed is growing
quickly, now at nearly 40 km/h.
Irina Zemlyanskaya (Russia) now holds a new best time with 23.27.

Some of the women do not even compete with a TT bike.
Luydmila Zakirova (Russia) is starting now, leaving six riders to go, including
Sabine Fischer (Germany). The defending champion also won a bronze medal at
the U23 road race in Hamilton last year.

Roxane Knetemann (Netherlands) is departing now, the daughter of Gerrie Knetemann.

Sabine Fischer, 17 years old, is pushing down the start ramp now being the last
rider to go.

Tereza Hurikova (Czech Republic) is now heading the classification with 22.14.

her 11th World Championship.

It will be very close for Amanda Spratt (Australia), with only 0.3 seconds between
2nd and 3rd. Spratt might be pushed out of a medal, when the favourites get
in.

Rebecca Bertolo (Italy) gets only a 14th place.
Marie Lindberg (Sweden), with 23.43, is also out of medal reach.

a fourth placing.

Tereza Hurikova (Czech Republic) is the winner for the Junior Women TT in Bardolino!
She looks very happy, sitting at the finish with Rebecca Much (USA)and Amanda
Spratt (Australia), silver and bronze medals.
