Lovely legal lids

By Tim Maloney in Liège

When the UCI Technical Commission delegate asked helmet manufacturers at the Tour de France to provide written documentation for their required CE safety holomogation, some helmet manufacturers were left scrambling and others were sitting pretty, like Giro/Bell and Specialized.

Both Giro/Bell and Specialized have their paperwork in order and shouldn't have any problems in Saturday's prologue. Mario Cipollini and the Domina Vacanze squad will wear Specialized's aptly named Time Trial helmet, while Lance Armstrong & US Postal Service-Berry Floor will be equipped with Giro's Rev Six model and Phonak's Tyler Hamilton will sport a Bell Meteor. Hamilton also has a new road helmet, the Bell Sweep, shown here in Phonak's white, green & yellow colors.
