Stage 10 - October 22: Mansfield Criterium, 33 km
Second win for McLachlan

Barcelona Olympian Robert McLachlan (Argon 18 Bikes-Caravello) won the first of two stages on Day 9 of the Malaysia Airlines Herald Sun Tour of Provincial Victoria. The Canberra school teacher was the best of a five man break at the end of a fast 33 km criterium in Mansfield, outsprinting Glen Mitchell (Active For Life) and Simon Gerrans (Jayco) for the honours.
The race lead remained with David McKenzie (Bicycle Superstore) who finished sixth in the stage and stretched his lead over teammate Karl Menzies to 17 seconds, with Jonas Ljungblad (Europcar - Pelaco) in third at 37 seconds.
How it unfolded
McLachlan was part of a well oiled five man break in the Mansfield Criterium, which skipped away from the field at around the half way mark of the 30 lap race. Joined by New Zealander Glen Mitchell (Active For Life), local favourite Simon Gerrans (Jayco), David Tanner (McGee - NSWIS) and Isle of Wight rider Keiran Page (Bendigo), the quintet stayed away for the remainder of the race, at one stage stretching its lead to almost 30 seconds.
Eventually they sprinted to the line in the above mentioned order with tour leader David McKenzie (Bicycle Superstore) leading the peloton home in the sprint for sixth position, which carried a 10 second bonus. McKenzie's nearest challenger - and Bicycle Superstore teammate, Karl Menzies from Tasmania, was 11th in the sprint home, which unfortunately for him carried no bonuses, although he did claim 4 seconds back in intermediate sprints meaning he now trails McKenzie by 17 seconds.
