Ronde three for Dekker

The Netherlands' Erik Dekker (Rabobank) won his third overall title in his national tour Saturday with a sprint win in the final stage from Sittard-Geleen to Landgraaf. Dekker narrowly beat his own teammate Marc Wauters to the line, and thanks to the time bonuses available he edged out defending champion Viatcheslav Ekimov (US Postal Service) by just one second. Ekimov was leader of the tour coming into the final stage, but despite a strong sprint for the Russian veteran, finishing fifth, he was unable to repeat his 2003 win. Wauters finished third overall.
Double stage winner Max van Heeswijk took the points competition, while Dekker took the intermediate sprints prize. Maxime Monfort (Landbouwkrediet-Colnago) was the best young rider of the tour and Team CSC wrapped up the team honours.
This year's race was marked by a number of crashes and subsequent abandons, including Alessandro Petacchi, Francesco Chicchi, Francisco Ventoso, and Rubens Bertogliati, to name a few.
