A Podium Girl Gone Bad

For the duration of the Tour de France Podium Girl Gone Bad will be bringing us a unique slant on the world's biggest annual sporting event.

Podium Girl Fashion Gone Bad

What are the things that Podium Girls are most interested in? Oh right, of course. Well, then, let`s talk about the second most interesting thing. Fashion.

What are the Podium Girls wearing these days? Le Tour rightfully dictates the colors: red, white, green and yellow. But, ooh la la, the hem lengths are up for grabs, so to speak. My dearies, I saw a bright red, skin-tight, little strappy thing thing on a Podium Girl. The hemline was so short that the men were leaning forward, as though in prayer. Their eyes rolled upwards, but I think not to the heavens.

Extra-high-heel, strappy black sandals, and long blonde hair were merely icing on the cake. But this georgeous Podium Girl did not carry a handbag! Do you remember when all proper Podium girls carried that ridiculous fashion statement purse dangling from their arm? Why carry a purse to walk across the stage to kiss some sweaty rider; what was in those damn purses anyway? Well, I asked someone, as you know I always do. It was an old PG that I found on the streets of Lourdes. She`d been a PG more than a few years ago, and had carried a few handbags in her time.

"What was in my purse - you really want to know what was in there? Toilet paper! Only toilet paper - cèst tout."

I looked at her in disbelief. "My dear child, you well know that the toilettes in France never have any. And you know how long we have to stand around and wait for those fellows to wash their grubby faces and get their behinds over to the podium. Toilet paper is the only sensible thing.

Until later,
PGGB
