Louisville Criterium

As the weather cleared up outside of Boulder, CO the men's Pro-1-2 race was lining up for a 75 minute criterium. The race was held on a fast, three turn 1.5K oval course with 70 riders. Action started in the first 15 minutes as the Pro Peloton team tried to make a few breakaways. Jon Baker (Pro Peloton) and Jon Tarkington (Vitamin Cottage) launched a breakaway pulling one Rio Grande rider along with them; they lasted for about six laps before being brought back. Soon after a counter attack by Michael Larsen (Pro Peloton) set himself on a solo effort that lasted about five laps and gained him a couple of primes. The action heated up after 45 minutes when strongman Andew Bajadali (Ofoto/ Lombardi Sports) made a move that pulled about 5 other riders with him.
With most of the teams represented it looked like this break would stick. IMC had missed the move and Australians Trent Lowe and Craig McCartney jumped to bridge, they came up just short but Swedish rider Johan Levin (IMC) brought it back enough for Adam Everest (IMC) to jump across. This break lasted only a couple more laps as the riders lost their organization. This was setting up to be a mass pack sprint with the Vitamin Cottage team setting up with a six man lead-out for their sprinter Chuck Coyle. On the slight rise to the finish the Vitamin Cottage train was working to perfection, but with 200 meters to go New Zealander Adam Everest (IMC) swung wide and took Jon Baker (Pro Peloton) with him. Craig McCartney (IMC) had a small gap between the Vitamin Cottage train and the curb to slip through and via his sprinting prowess he was able to squeeze by Chuck Coyle (Vitamin Cottage) with 30 meters to go. Jon Baker finished a strong third with Andy Clark (Rio Grande) and Adam Everest (IMC) finishing out the top five.
