Agiskoviner Eelmore Circuit races

May 24, 2006

Another really awful evening for racing produced another sprint finish (who'd have thought!) in the 3/4 event, and then one of the 3/4 riders almost affected the outcome of the E/1/2 placings by not looking properly and turning across the two break away riders, causing one to brake heavily (Anders Christensen - www.agiskoviner.com) and the other to come crashing down (Paul Pickup - www.agiskoviner.com). Fortunately only time was lost and Paul got back on his bike and rode back up to Anders, who had very sportingly sat up to wait for his team mate. As the two approached the line, well clear of their two fellow breakaway companions, who had been dropped a few laps previously, they shook hands and Anders allowed Paul to cross the line first, displaying excellent team spirit.

Earlier, Paul had broken away with Tom Smith of awcycles.co.uk and Tim Elverson, a fast improving 3rd category rider from VC Meudon. Paul punctured but took a lap out and Tim suffered the same fate as Anders rode across from the bunch to them. He also took a lap out and the four re-grouped and shared the work. Anders then broke away and Paul jumped across. It was then the turn of Anders to puncture, so he swiftly changed his wheel and joined Paul off the front.

Back in the bunch, there were plenty of attempts to get across, but the Meudon and agisko riders were happy to follow the wheels and look for opportunities. The bunch eventually fragmented and Lee Smith - www.agiskoviner.com, who is back after a period off the bike, won the gallop for 5th.

You should use more robust tyres at Eelmore when it is raining, as the flint really gets washed up from the cracks and it is very conducive to puncturing. There must have been double figures on the night, and the finish line marshals were kept busy changing tubes and pumping up spares!

Please bring a spare set of wheels if you want a replacement during the race. Thanks to Justin Hoy who allowed most of his spare bike wheels to be pinched for others to race with.

Races every Wednesday evening until the end of August, except the Guildford Crit date in July when we deconflict. 1830 Youths, 1900 Seniors. Separate events for E/1/2/J1/2 and 3/4/W/V/J/3/4. Come along and have a blast around the pan flat, traffic free circuit, located between Fleet and Aldershot on the A323, more towards the Aldershot end. Take a look on www.londoncyclesport.com for the series information.
