Agiskoviner Eelmore Circuit Races

May 17, 2006

While some enjoyed the Champions League final (mainly the Spanish!), other people, and it has to be said they were barking mad for turning up, rode a very wet Eelmore circuit in appalling weather conditions. It was good in that the 3/4's actually split up and it did not end in a bunched sprint, but saying that, only 12 finished thanks to punctures and packing! Allan Ridler (Army CU) and Lee Smith (www.agiskoviner.com) were the main protagonists who broke away with Phil Bowley (Andover Wheelers) and stayed away for most of the event, while the remainder split into little groups. Chris Wood (www.agiskoviner.com) rode a great race to bridge across quite a gap upto the 4th and 5th placed riders and stayed with them for their own little sprint finish. Great effort! Lee Smith took a fairly easy sprint win, doubling that up with the prime for the For Goodness Shakes! products on offer again this year as primes, thanks to www.forgoodnessshakes.com.

In the E/1/2, Paul Pickup took the prime for the For Goodness Shakes! products and continued the effort to open up a 100 metre lead. He kept this throughout and extended it slightly at the end, to cross the line comfortably, celebrating with the extensive crowd who had gathered to watch (all huddled up under the gazebo!). Behind, a group of four had formed, but with two agiskoviner and two VC Meudon riders in it, it was always a case of any move being marked by Lee Day and Anders Christensen of the promoting club. After a couple of strong attacks, Anders eventually drew clear and Lee jumped across to him, leaving the Meudon's to try and bridge across, but to no avail as Anders mainly drove it.

Overall, there were many punctures but the racing was still fast and furious. A great workout for anyone looking to improve their turn of speed.
