Eelmore Series #6

UK, June 8, 2005

The best weather of the year saw some aggressive racing in both main events. In the 3/4's there were loads of small breakaway attempts, but every time Lewis Atkins went up the road, the field reacted to chase him and any co-breakaway riders down. James Boyman, back after a nasty crash which left him with a broken wrist and nose also attempted a solo effort, but his stamina is still also on the mend, so it came down to the traditional bunch sprint. And guess who won! Lewis Atkins!!! But only by a whisker this week. In future he's going to have to try and use different tactics if he is to get away, as the bunch is giving him a much harder time now. Still, it will be good for him as he strives to improve.

In the Elite/1/2 field the race split in half after 40 minutes of racing, with another group splintering off from the lead break until just two laps to go were signalled. On the bell lap, there was some confusion whether it was the bell lap as young Harvey had forgotten to ring it! Yours truly assured the lead group that it was the last lap and then attempted to jump away. After getting 25 metres and holding it down the back straight, Jamie Newall put the hammer down to reel me in. Round the bottom bend and I still had 15 metres, but double punctures in both legs accounted for my pathetic excuse of an attempt to hold it up the rise, into the headwind, for the last 500 metres! The bunch swept past with a few sniggers and grins, upto the line for Justin Hoy to take it in a close sprint from Paul Pickup and Lee Day. Maybe next week!

If you would like to be part of a successful club that supports and encourages riders at all levels and of all standards, please contact Gary Kristensen MBE via the website "Contact Us" link on www.agiskoviner.com. We are particularly looking for Youths and Juniors to supplement our Development Squad, as well as seasoned time triallists looking for national medals!
