Eelmore Series #12 - Eelmore, UK, July 27, 2005

No wind, but extremely wet to start with! It did dry up later into the race, but the damage had been done by then and people were soaked. With the rain comes punctures, and there were more than a few changing inner tubes and grabbing spare wheels from the boots of cars!

Maintaining his record of a win every year since the Rushmoor/Eelmore events started about 10 years back, Lee Day (Liphook Cycles RT) won a very close sprint after only nine riders signed on. The quality was still there, but it was newly promoted 2nd category rider Max Harris (www.agiskoviner.com) who pushed him to a few millimetres of losing. Had the line been just a metre further back, Lee would have been second, but his resilience earned him the win. As it had all stayed together, Paul Pickup (Liphook Cycles RT) made his usual move with two laps remaining, knowing he has barely got a sprint to talk about! It was Justin Hoy (Evans Cycles RT) that did the most to pull him back, and he later paid for this in the bunched gallop to the line, where he is usually unbeatable (when he has resorted to his normal tactics of sitting on and glass cranking through!) But it was not to be this time!

In the 3/4/W/V/J, Mike Anderson (www.agiskoviner.com) seemed to be in his normal aggressive riding mood as the promise of free entries to next week's event were on offer for anyone beating young Lewis Atkins fair and square. He was off the front several times with various other riders, forcing a fast pace from the start which shelled out more than a couple, but nothing survived and it all ended in a bunch sprint - quelle surprise! This time, Lewis showed them all a clean pair of heels in the gallop instead of riding away from them alone, winning by a clear bike length or two, and much to the relief of this organiser who would have to be supplementing the entry fees had he lost!

If you would like to be part of a successful club that supports and encourages riders at all levels and of all standards, please contact Gary Kristensen MBE via the website "Contact Us" link on www.agiskoviner.com. We are particularly looking for Youths and Juniors to supplement our Development Squad, as well as ladies and seasoned time triallists looking for national medals!
