Chas Messenger Stage Race
Hillingdon, UK, April 30 - May 1, 2005
A fast start to the first stage saw a group of 13 riders go clear, their lead at one stage being 20 seconds. The group included Stuart Dangerfield (SIS Sports), Robert Tayler (Alltrax) and Andrew Rigg, along with three of his Vinerbike/Agisko teammates.
The group was brought back after a concerted effort by the bunch, led by the Recycling.co.uk/MG Xpower team. The instigatator of the original break, Tony Gibb attacked again when the group was caught with 20 minutes of racing completed. This time he was joined by the four recycling boys, Zak Carr, Duncan Urqhart, Andrew Martin, and Kevin Dawson. The group worked well although some malarkey occurred with Gibb and Oliphant. The sprint resulted in a very close battle between Olpihant and Gibb with the former taking the 15 second bonus for the stage win. The final lap was completed in 1.54 minutes secs.
