Eelmore Circuit, September 8, 2004
Tonight was the final Eelmore of the year, well, in the Wednesday series anyway. Kat and I are thinking about putting a few on throughout the winter on a Saturday or Sunday in-between the Ottershaw series and the Hilling, as they are not accessible for everyone. There would be separate events for 3/4's and E/1/2's as per the Wed events, as well as Youths racing. We'd definitely like to put on a ladies only event or two as well, but we need positive feedback from a good number of ladies before we commit ourselves. If you fancy a bash down at Eelmore over the winter, please let me know via gary_k@v21mail.co.uk. The more feedback we get, the more likely it is to happen!

James Boyman punctured leaving Toby Meadows to take top spot this week and possibly clinch the overall title and frame and forks first prize. Rob Jackson rode "the race of my season" to place second leaving Lucy Chittenden and Andrew Ferris to battle it out for 3rd and 4th respectively.

After puncturing in the youth race, James Boyman decided to take it out on the 3/4's!!! The pace was relatively sedate from the off and when James rode off the front with about 6 laps to go, no-one reacted and that was that. The judges looked on amazed as the pace of the bunch dropped to Sunday club run speed, that's after everyone has stopped for 45 minutes at the cafe and stuffed themselves with cakes and bacon sarnies by the way!!! Dean Frost was first to up the pace, attacking in his usual style and dangling off the front by varying degrees. This strung out the pack a bit, making the judges job slightly easier down to 5th or 6th place, but after that it was the usual massed finish. People wearing black, not very see through, gilets over their number is also not very helpful, so please take note for future reference if you want to get placed!

With most of Evans Cycles Race Team in attendance, the pace was kept high from the start. Various attacks went and got reeled in by the Liphook and Meudon boys in the main, however one of the Evans RT, who shall remain nameless for fear of getting a beating from his team mates, is very good at towing everyone back up to his own riders attempting to get away. Cheers easy!!! Maybe he misses them, maybe he loves them! Whatever, I'd say it's good for us, but not good for them and definitely not good for him if he does it again! So, for once, the race pretty much ended in a bunched sprint apart from Jamie Newall and Steve Richards (VC Meudon) who had clipped off the front with three laps remaining and managed to hold on to the end. Jamie, inevitably took the win with his superior sprint, while Steve must have been pleased with second. Justin Hoy showed his galloping legs are still going good as he took the bunch sprint from Lee Day and youngster Giles Wingate, who rode really strong the whole race, showing he is one to be watched for the future.
My thanks to all the riders, officials, helpers, volunteers, judges, commissaires, administrators, organisers and sponsors that have made Eelmore 2004 even better than 2003. We've put on 19 events in all weathers and with varying numbers of riders; a huge commitment for everyone involved, especially those who've got babies on the go too! I, personally, could not have done this alone and without the support of my better half Kat and Lorraine Day in particular. James Bates from Farnborough and Camberley CC stood in while I was away or on holiday, so thanks to him, while Alison Jackson has looked after our precious little boy Cameron as we got side tracked taking your hard earned cash, being officious or thrashing round the circuit with the rest of you, so a huge thanks to her too. If you've helped us in any way this season, then please take a big "Thank You" for all your effort. It was appreciated and with continued support over the winter and into next year, we can hopefully bring more racing to Eelmore.
And the winner of the frame and forks is... Toby Meadows (Beyond Mtb)!!! He has placed first in his category every race and ridden most of the series events, often riding up into the 3/4 event and doing a good few laps with the big boys! Well done young man, not bad for a 14 year old!!! James Boyman (Team Luciano) was a very close second, scoring 13 points to Toby's 12, so it couldn't have been tighter! Best placed senior rider was Justin Hoy (Evans RT) on 29 points, followed by Lee Day (Liphook Cycles RT) on 34 and then Paul Pickup (Liphook Cycles RT) on 48.
