CYCO Criterium Series

Auckland, February 1, 2004

A Grade - Carnac Class

The field was very even this week with a number of 2 or 3 man breaks, with varying composition, holding out for a couple of laps and then succumbing to the relentless momentum of the bunch. Aaron Strong wound up early for the first sprint and held off a late charge to take it. The attacks continued but again the second sprint was taken by Nick Hotchin launching himself at the top of the straight and taking the cash by a clear margin. Tim Pawson and Aaron Strong got clear for a couple of laps but were caught as was Troy Campbell after testing his legs a little early.

The final Sprint was hard fought as Ric Reid surged to the front edging John Harris, John Fitzpatrick and Courtney Black. Aaron Strong picked up the last points.

B Grade - Cateye Class

Cateye are putting up a prize package of a set of ABS 25 lights and a Cateye cordless computer for the series winner.

A very popular race with more new faces. Its very difficult for anybody to get away in a sustained fashion in this grade but if you did, I suppose we would promote you. Again, there were a number of efforts off the front with the chase proving telling at the rear of the bunch as gaps opened.

Grenville Hirst showed a lot of gas in taking the first sprint and has his card marked for future observation. In the final sprint, Peter Harding completed his application for A Grade, which has been accepted as he again proved himself the fastest finisher. Peter Sutherland will join him with second having also won last weeks interim sprint. Phillip Turnwald picked up third.

The two Peters will take half their points to A Grade. Congratulations.

A big Thanks to Diane Michels and Rob Downie for helping out on the corners. Please let marshalls know you appreciate them being there.
