Peel District Cycling Club Race 6

Berglund claims victory

In the Premier Grade Dave Berglund recorded an impressive win in the points score Criterium. Berglund dominated proceedings but not before and impressive attacking ride from Brian Buck.

Buck lead the charge early, opening up a handy lead before Berglund made his move to join the early pacesetter. From that point on the pair extended their lead over the pack with Berglund taking the remaining sprints finishing overall winner on 18pts and Buck second on 14pts. Back in the pack the likes of Bob Addy, Matt Gibbons and Geoff Marshall kept the tempo rolling along but in a tight tussle for points Andrew Crack finished third overall on 7pts, Michael Dowell fourth on 3pts and Geoff Marshall on 2pts.

The B Grade race was somewhat steadier with occasional breaks attempted with little hope of success. Brett Clapham and Paul Slocombe put in valiant efforts in the early laps as did an improving Fraser Hanlan and Allan Clunning but of the three sprints contested Richard Le Tessier came out on top with 14pts taking the race from Slocombe 9pts, Clapham 6pts and an outstanding effort from new member Adam Farrell in his first appearance also on 6pts with Michael Polmear, back from a long break, 1pt.

Rob Davis was in full control in C Grade breaking away early and in doing so taking all the sprints and finishing on 15ps, Bob Norton and Stan Baker had a terrific battle for minor placings with Norton eventually finishing second on 8pts, Baker 7pts, Jack Iveson 2pts and Tony Ridgely 1pts.

Great work from our Social Cycling members who provided our safety marshals for the mornings event.

In Race 1 of the Brian Whiteway Memorial 2-up Time Trial Series paired riders Stan Baker and Rob Davis are the early pacesetters with Phil Diesel and Mark Roberts hot on their heels. Diesel and Roberts cruised over the 16km course in a smart time of 22min 11sec but on handicap Baker and Davis got the edge after clocking 28min 10sec for the distance. Andrew Crack and Michael Polmear were outside their best registering 27min 32sec while Dave Berglund and Darryl Harris were well under their previous best with 24min 30sec and currently in third position on the points table.
