Peel Cycling Club

Saturday May 26, 2007

Port Kennedy teenager Michael Dowell had the winning formula in the Peel Cycling Clubs A-Grade Road Race last Saturday.

A-Grade competitors were first away and immediately under the pump as the small field powered around the course with Michael Dowell, Phil Deisel and Russell Fryer leading the charge. Time trial specialist Mark Roberts was in cruise mode while Geoff Marshall and Steve Dodd also looked comfortable in the blustery conditions. An out of sorts Steve Ware was in trouble on lap three and eventually retired as the field pressed on. Raymond Loly was putting in a determined effort to stay in touch as was Bob Addy with some good stints up front.

After completing nearly six laps its was all decided in the final 400 metres where the sprinters took charge with Dowell in great form showing the way delivering a powerful and controlled sprint finish to hold off Deisel second with Fryer a bike length further back in third place and Geoff Marshall working overtime in fourth position ahead of the rest.

In the supporting events Troy Main found the winning formula as did Andy Bennet who cruised around the course, just of the pace youngsters Theo Yates made an impact in his first outing in months, also impressive was new member Amy Lant who had no troubles conquering the 36km event.
