After approx 21km at Blue Top Broadford rider Peter Cooper had caught everyone except Burgess but on the run to Highlands Burgess was passed by Cooper. Meanwhile new rider 16 year old Jadyn Vandort had also left his co-markers to try and chase down Cooper.
Scratch riders Alan Adams and Ian Boyde were chasing hard and were only 5mins down on the leading rider Peter Cooper at the turnaround point. On the run back to the finish Cooper was reeled in and left in the wake of the rampaging scratch riders.
