Peel Cycling Club
Race #10 Coodenup, Western Australia, Sunday February 4, 2007
In the Peel District Cycling Club's Round 10 of the Criterium series held on the Coodenup Circuit, Phil Diesel's timely sprint took him to line honours.
In blustery conditions A Grade was first away and Geoff Marshall wasted no time in upping the tempo. Brian Buck and Bob Addy also made several attempts to breakaway but the pack smartly nullified those ambitions. Attacking riding through the course of the 50 minute race caused problems for Ian Clark as Laurie Longworth and Paul Slocombe also felt the strain. In the run home Diesel exploded out of the final turn and led Addy all the way to the line with Raymond Loly third.
Andy Bennett recorded another strong win in B Grade - although numbers were down Bennett controlled the race from the outset. Paul Lewis and Phil Edwards were in the hunt early as Mitchell Horwood lost contact. Bennett held a handy lead to cruise over the line with Lewis second and Edwards third.
For the most part the pace was steady in C Grade with riders sharing the work load. Again, Bob Norton enjoyed his stints at the head of the pack as did Wade Longworth, however in the sprint finish Tom Atkinson had the momentum to finish over Longworth with Norton slipping to third. Peter Moyses rounded of the top four.
In the Brian Whiteway two-up Time Trial Series held midweek, Joe Cox has teamed up with Jim Matthews to head the points table after race #4.
Cox and Matthews have been consistent performers in the 16km event, clocking a respectable 27 minutes 42 second ride in windy conditions. Darryl Harris and Chris Bennett hold down second position overall with Peter Moyses and Katherine Hookham in third spot. Phil Diesel and Mark Roberts have completed the course in a slick 22'39 recorded in race #3.
