Wall returns

There was another good turnout of riders for the Thursday Night Twilight Criterium at beautiful Haywards Bay. In the opening race of the evening Phil Jones dominated the C-Grade field, breaking away and holding onto a 10 second lead for the closing laps with Peter (Pierre) Evans leading the bunch in a desperate chase. Meagan Wilkie put in a strong sprint to get second, with Pierre third and Wayne Farrugia fourth.

The B-grade race was wide open after the shock promotion of the Dos Banditos, Joe (Pepe) Chiaverini and Tony Pulo to A-grade. It was an attacking race with much of the group left scambling for wheels in the closing stages. New member Drew Robertson put in a strong attack late in the race and looked set to take a solo victory. But his attack was brought back with strong riding by Dave Russell and Leonie Aisbett. In the sprint to the line Drew still had enough power left over to take the win from Roger Ocvirk and Dave Russell.

There were nine starters in the A grade race, but the number left in contention was soon brought down to four with strong attacking from Andy Blair, Luke Dale, Josh Wall and Tim Morris. After only a week of training, Josh showed that there was still some form left from a year spent racing in France. Josh attacked strongly, surprising the rest with about 5 laps remaining. Despite a late surge by Tim with 2 laps remaining he held on to take the win.
