Graded criterium racing was held at Wellington Cycling Club on August 5th 2006. A grade was the most popular with 14 riders. In 60 minutes plus 3 laps and sprints at 15 minute intervals, the racing was fast and furious with some riders working hard and putting in some good honest rides. With the cold weather keeping some home tucked up in bed, those that have been hitting the roads were the ones to watch. Shane Dove and Simon Whitford are not afraid of the cold weather and this paid off today with Shane breaking away in a solo effort for 15 minutes and although he was caught, he still sprinted home for the win. Great to see return of some riders that have been absent of late, Simon Whitford, Ray Rhodes, Simone Spykers, Mike Renehan and Mick O'Connor were impressive during the ride. Mick O'Connor winning two intermediate sprints and BRCC rider Rick Young winning the third sprint.

B grade 50 minutes plus 3 laps, a breakaway nicknamed the "Riviera bunch busters" managed to stay away for long enough for the 3 riders involved to take home the money. Allan Rankin unfortunately had to leave the race mid race for work commitments and Darren Platt, Angus (why should I do a turn) Hume and Ashley Lucas (Plus I think another Riviera rider), were left to chase but couldnt quite bridge the gap.

C grade was 35 minutes plus 3 laps and I am just a bit disappointed that Wayne Tunks has not written the LCCC website report yet as I was going to steal it and I am sure it would be a beauty since he won the race and rule of thumb in this kind of writing as I have said before is not to let the truth get in the way of a good story. Fiona Bradfield made a return to racing after some time out. Interestingly in C grade there was no sprint as the bunch had become individual riders a the end, battling it out to get to the line first.
