Traralgon, Victoria, April 23, 2006

With eight A grade and three B grade riders entered it was decided to combine both grades for the 50 minute + 3 lap race with the B grade race in itself. C grade had seven riders riding 25 minutes + 3 laps.

First away were the A & B grade riders with Jim Peachey on lap two attacking the bunch on the left hand side as the bunch were passing C grade on the right hand ride going up the back straight, but was soon bought back. Next to have a go was Dave Shanahan who managed to stay away for several laps before being reeled in. Each time the race went down the back straight into the wind riders tried to get away but were soon pulled back. With around 10 minutes to go Dave Gafa made his move and attacked taking with him Jamie Johnston, Charles Howlett made the gap and all three began to pull away from the bunch. Three laps to go and it was who would challenge Howlett in the sprint from the escapees, however Howlett was too strong and won by a couple of bike lengths from Gafa with Johnston 3rd. Allen Timmer-Arends winning the bunch sprint.

The B Grade riders were with the A grade bunch for most of the race but soon found the pace too hot when the race really started. Roland Elsdon was the only B grade rider to finish on the same lap as the A grade , Tom Langstaff was lapped but finishing the race and Phillip McNeil registered a DNF. Elsdon went on to take the win with Tom Langstaff 2nd.

The C grade race looked like it could be an interesting tussle with the ever improving Dean Gray and Andrew Crozier in the field of seven. Potential new member Simon Burns having his first race in the sport was looking strong after Ashley Lucas attacked early with the remainder of the bunch content in letting the winner of the Mallard Handicap last month dangle off the front some 30 metres for several laps before Lucas eased back into bunch. Sue Elsdon struck mechanical trouble soon after and was never going to get back to the group.

Veteran Wayne Tunks picked up the pace when the A & B grade bunch once again overtook them but was soon closed down by Andrew Crozier. As the pace began to climb Tunks and young Shannon McCurley dropped off the pace and was soon joined by Lucas when he to found the pace too quick up front also. In the run to the line Burns proved too strong for the C grade bunch winning easily from Dean Gray and Andrew Crozier. Ashley Lucas took the sprint for 4th ahead of McCurley.
