Eric Hall Memorial Three Day Tour - June 11-13, 2005

Mitch Docker (Brunswick) took out the 47th edition of the Eric Hall Memorial Queens birthday three day tour in Melbourne.

Docker benefited from the bad luck of David Kemp (QLD) who had a commanding lead going into the last day, but had to retire with a broken rear derailleur.

Young Brunswick rider Nick Culvenor took the opportunity to win the B grade event. Whilst the overnight leader and Coburg riders hesitated on the final stage, Culvenor took off 15km from the finish and his gap was big enough to see him take the Tour win. Overnight lead Peter O'Callahan (Brunswick) finished second with Paul Logan (Coburg) third.

100 senior riders took to the start with A,B,C,D and E grade riders battling it out over the long week end for the honour of winning the event sponsored by Aware Environmental Laundry Concentrate. Darren Lapthorne (Coburg) won the opening stage, and with Dylan Newell (Brunswick) recording the fastest time in the Sunday morning time trial, Lapthorne was still in the lead. In the afternoon stage Kemp took his chance at the third KOM and rode away from the bunch, he won the next KOM and proceeded to take out the stage. Kemp had a commanding lead going into the final day. Daniel Nelms did a long solo ride for much of the final stage. His break away was enough for him the secure each of the three KOM's and win the KOM title. Docker and Casey Munro (Brunswick) took the time bonuses for the minor KOM places. Eric Hall's grand daughter was on hand to make the A grade presentations.

Sunbury Cycling Club moves a step closer to emulating Johan Bruyneel with their fourth year running Sunbury victory when Andrew Wilson (Sunbury) took out the Tour from Sean Hurley (Brunswick) and former winner David Collier (Collier).

D grade was won by Chris Hitchen from Sunbury who put in an impressive Time Trial which gave him enough buffer to win the Tour. Wayne Gebert and Jarrod Riches battled out the KOM with Gebert beating fellow Coburg member Jarrod Riches. E grade was run in conjunction with D grade, and Lyndon Pung (Preston) took the title ahead of Christine Ervin (Coburg).
