Anthony Spurgeon (Colnago Caravello) made it two wins in a row when he stormed home to take the bunch sprint in round four of the Trek Bikes Summer Series and increase his lead over Stewart Campbell (Easts) to 10 points for the series first prize of a Trek Madone 5.9 frame.

Despite the prospect of backing up for the Joseph Sunde Memorial criteriums the next morning, rider turnout was still strong for all three grades, which obviously indicates everyone is much fitter than they are letting on or they just relish the challenge of competing at Heffron Park twice in the space of 12 hours. The race pattern was very similar to the previous week, which saw A Grade catch B Grade just after the seven laps to go sprint prime in which Sprint King leader Tony Iannacito (Caravello) bagged some valuable sprint points. With five laps remaining the race was all together when C Grade where caught and Liam Kelly (Randwick Botany) won the next two sprint primes to narrow the gap to Tony Iannacito to three points.

In the finale it all looked like a formality with Jose Rodriguez (Colnago Caravello) doing a magnificent lead out job for his new team mate Spurge. That was until the final corner leading into the straight when Rodriguez's bike appeared to develop a sudden case of the wobbles inexplicably causing him to change his sprint line causing Kelly, who had jumped very strongly to the left, to take evasive action to avoid a fall. In the confusion Spurge jumped to the right and held off Computer to the line with Chris 'Spongee' Jenkins proving his recent form is paying off when he recorded his first points in the series with a fine third place. John Kenny and Scott Callum (Easts) rounded out the top five after strong rides in B grade and John Sunde (St George) got one back for the 'masters class' when he held out the wily juniors to take 1st B grade.

Tom Reid (Easts) again rode above his weight to finish with the main group and also record his second consecutive C grade victory (welcome to B grade) in front of team mate Todd Dunn who still manages to hold onto the C grade series lead by 3 points.
