Beruldsen mocks race management!

By Peter Winton

Why does it occur? How do some riders remain invisible to the powers that be?

Ian Beruldsen snatched today's win in his powerhouse style. In another big bunch sprint with the bulk of the field, 15 riders, together up the finishing rise, Beruldsen reached into his 'oversized quadriceps muscle' bag of tricks and added another Club win to his already purse-full of the same. Arthur Anderson must feel good however as he was away with 100 to go. As he freely admitted though, he forgot to stand up. Swap you places Arturo.

24 riders congregated today in the vineyards of Buronga for what was supposed to be a graded handicap but turned out to be something else entirely. I could go on but those within a 50 metre radius have already heard my dummy spit! Move on Winton, get over it.

One thing I felt satisfied with was making Millsy hurt up the finishing climb on the penultimate lap. Yeah, I've waited 3 years for that pay back. I remember "Culperam Hill" on the outskirts of Renmark. It's another story for another time.

Chopping block, at 3 minutes, caught the 7:30 bunch on lap 4 at the 42km mark and from there it was merely a question from staying away from the scratch group of Tankard, Schmidt and Busch. A reduced bunch today with Mulhearn (along with Ian Brade) appearing at the SA Time Trial championships and Rob McNally away. Scott Giles was working for Christine Nixon (relation of Richards?).

I guess the story of the day must be with our limit group, and yes Dave Digby was in the midst of it again. Ralph Morrish took his cohort down a dirt road and about a 2km shorter distance. Any wonder the chasers couldn't sight them. Needless to say they recorded a "dnf", thanks for the honesty blokes.

Cameron Crothers showed improved form today to get himself amongst the finishing bunch and I trust this spurs him on to re-live the experience again soon. Welcome back to Steve "lost boy" Fenwick and Adrian Lloyd.

Next week is the Berri Open (SA) and the majority of our clubbies put in an appearance over there in Crow-eater country and no Club race is conducted in our district.

In the junior boys today Gerard Richardson and Luke McMahon had a two lap (24kms) two rider contest with Gerard the winner. This is of course excluding Samuel Priest as he is racing amongst the "aged and fermented" ones over a shorter distance but further than his younger mates.
