Day 1 - June 28: Elite/U23 men time trial,

Paulinho takes third gold

By Gregor Brown

Sergio Paulinho of Team Astana took his third-career gold medal in the Portuguese Time Trial Championships with his win in Paredes. Second and third behind the silver medallist of the 2004 Olympic Road Race were Tiago Machado (Madeinox-Boavista) and Helder Oliveira (Barbot-Siper).

"Since I am the only Portuguese rider representing Team Astana, it will be a great challenge for me to take the national road title. For this reason, I was extremely motivated to win today's time trial. It is once again an honour to wear the Portuguese colours and represent the countries of both Portugal and Kazakhstan."

The test was 27.6 kilometres long, with four different laps of 6.9 kilometres in the city centre.
