Stage win secures Murphy GC lead

Stage 2 was held near Franklin, Tennessee on a challenging circuit that delivered approximately 1,100 feet of climbing per lap, spread out over a dozen or so big rollers. With 90 degree plus temperatures and pressure from a break that included eventual stage winner John Murphy (Health Net/Maxxis) the field was split into several chase groups.
Health Net and Jittery Joe's launched a flurry of attacks early on the first series of big rollers on the second lap and eventually a six man break got up the road and finished the race nearly four minutes ahead of yellow jersey holder Trent Wilson.
Those in the break included John Murphy (Health Net), Dirk Pohlman (Krystal), Neal Shirley (Jittery Joes), Eddy Hilger (Juris/morepartnerincome.com), Frank Pipp (Health Net), and Nicholas Reistad (Jelly Belly).
By virtue of his win, Murphy took the general classification lead followed by Shirley at 19 seconds and Hilger at 34 seconds. Murphy also found himself in the points competition lead as well.
