Stage 2 - March 8: Totana - Fortuna, 162 km

Winds take victory, stage winnings to Isaac Gálvez

The wind took over Thursday's stage of the 2007 Vuelta a Murcia, forcing organisers to annul the stage and keep the standings unchanged from stage one. Riders were to cover 162 kilometres from Totana to Fortuna but after some delay the race was set to start in Pliego, for a shortened day. Considering the winds that caused crashes the day before, another meeting took place at the new start location and it was decided to cancel the stage, have the riders only ride the final 10 kilometres into Fortuna and dedicate the day's prizes to Isaac Gálvez, who passed away this last winter during the Gent Six-Day.

José Joaquín Rojas (Caisse d'Epargne) wore the race leader's yellow jersey for the final fraction of the stage and will start tomorrow in the same position, ahead of Italian Danilo Napolitano (Lampre-Fondital) and Juan José Haedo (Team CSC).
