Stage 3 - July 9 : First National Bank Maritime Bay Classic, Manitowoc, WI, 100 km
Australian brothers take top two spots in Manitowoc
Australian sprinter Hilton Clarke (Navigators Insurance) won the First National Bank Maritime Bay Classic in 2002. This year he took second place at the event's Holy Family Memorial 100 Pro/Am race but in the process helped his younger brother Jonathon Clarke (SouthAustralia.com) ride to victory in his first-ever appearance at the International Cycling Classic. The two brothers were joined by West Bend native Kyle Jacobson (Team Beans & Barley) in a breakaway with all three eventually coming around to lap the field. The younger Clarke had enough energy after that effort to attack again with Nebojsa Jovanovic (AEG-Toshiba) of Serbia & Montenegro and Garrett Peltonen (HealthNet/Maxxis). This second threesome stayed away until the finish with Jonathon Clarke enjoying an easy ride to victory in the final laps.
In the Waterford Sprint Competition, Jamiel Danesh (RHVilla.com/Montano Velo) lept into the lead from fourth place coming into the race. Yellow jersey wearer Hayden Godfrey of New Zealand (Team Monex) maintained his lead ahead of Dennis Haueisen (Team Milram) in the overll standings. Tomorrow's Stage Four of the 2006 International Cycling Classic is the Point Beer Tour of Alpine Valley Road Race.
