Virtual unknown wins mountain stage race

Sergey Reven from Petropavlovsk in North Kazakhstan has won the Kazakhstan U22 Mountain Championship, an extremely hilly six-day stage race. Even in his home country the 20-year-old Renev was an unknown until now - this is his first significant victory. But it might not be his last. He is coached by Sergey Kruchina, also from Petropavlovsk, who trained Alex Vinokourov for 10 years.

Eighty riders started the event, but only 29 finished as the mountains took their toll.
