Dempsey Ambushes Griffin and Moriarty

With Paul Griffin (Earl of Desmond) and Cycleways.com's Eugene Moriarty starting today's final stage of the Credit Union Ras Mumhan tied on time, a big showdown was expected between the two. However John Dempsey (Dan Morrissey Carrick Wheelers) made the most of their marking of each other to go clear with fourth-placed Conor Murphy (Kanturk CUCC) in a dangerous break and scoop the overall victory.

Dempsey and Murphy broke away with four other riders during the 58 mile stage, building enough of a lead to more than overcome their respective 17 and 18 second deficits. Indeed the former ended the race 57 seconds clear of the disappointed duo, taking a one second margin of victory over Murphy. Brian Keane (Leinster Federation) was fifth, with points winner Martin O'Loughlin (Dan Morrissey Carrick Wheelers) sixth.

Today's stage went to Eddie O'Donoghue (Team Murphy and Gunn). Bray Wheelers' Michael O'Donnell was second while Martin O'Loughlin was third.

The other classifications saw Dan Morrissey Carrick Wheelers take best team, Griffin the best climber award and Peter O'Connor (Killarney CC) the prize for best second cat rider. Local rider Miceal Concannon (Killorglin Credit Union) was first of the under 23s.
