Stage 4 - March 27: Killorglin - Cahirciveen, 60 miles

McCann completes stage double, Griffin still leads

Following a clear victory in the morning time trial, 2004 FBD Milk Rás winner David McCann completed a rare double when he triumphed this afternoon on stage 4 of the Credit Union Rás Mumhan. At the end of the 60 mile Skellig Ring stage, McCann (Earl of Desmond) outsprinted Rory Wyley (Dan Morrissey Carrick Wheelers), reaching the line in Cahirsiveen four seconds clear. The latter's team-mate Martin O'Loughlin was third, 34 seconds down, while Sean Lacey (Earl of Desmond), Denis Lynch (Kanturk CUCC) and Surrey League's Warrick Spence were each a further second behind.

Kerry cyclists Paul Griffin (Earl of Desmond) and Eugene Moriarty (Cycleways.com) finished eighth and ninth on the stage, crossing the line in a group led home by Kilcullen Hillcrest rider Colm Bracken. They were one minute behind McCann but remain locked at the head of the general classification.

The race concludes tomorrow in Killorglin with a 58 mile circuit race. Griffin and Moriarty are separated by just 18 hundredths of a second, meaning that one or other is the most likely victor, but with John Dempsey (Dan Morrissey Carrick Wheelers) and Conor Murphy (Kanturk CUCC) both less than 20 seconds behind, the race could go any one of four ways.
