Barloworld-Valsir double in TT

Team Barloworld-Valsir once again showed their strength today in the 5.5km uphill time trial. Tiaan Kannemeyer won first place again today with an exceptional time of 12 minutes and 25 seconds. "I am really happy with today," said Kannemeyer. "The time trial was a very important stage for me to win as that is where I lost time in last year's race."

Fellow teammate and good friend to Kannemeyer, Ryan Cox, finished in second place today with a time of 12 minutes and 36 seconds. "Tiaan and I have been good friends for a very long time and we came here to help him win," said Cox. "Anything can happen on the day, racing is unpredictable so it is nice to see the plan we made with the team actually work."

Tomorrow's stage of the Giro will combine with the Cape Argus Pick 'N Pay, which doubles as a fun ride for over 25,000 competitors. The prize money has been increased to R110,000 just for tomorrow's stage making the rest of the competition even more interested in winning The Argus.

"Including The Argus in the Giro will make it a really interesting race tomorrow as a lot of the guys are tired from the week of racing. Unfortunately, Antonio, who we brought over from Italy especially, will not be riding due to illness so we will just have to make other plans. It will be unpredictable until the minute it happens," Kannemeyer concluded.

Kannemeyer will continue to wear the pink leader's jersey tomorrow and Cox will wear the Heinz King of the Mountain jersey.
