Heijboer faster than Thomas Dekker - wow!

For the fourth time on the same course of the inaugural 6.5km prologue of the Boucles de la Mayenne, Mathieu Heijboer has scored an even better time than his compatriot Thomas Dekker one year before. He actually rode six seconds faster! "I'm not sure if I've done something exceptionnal but everything went well for me, the 23 years old Dutchman said afterwards. I didn't know what the best time would be today. After doing the course four times in training, I only did the best I could, but I could feel having good legs."
Heijboer hadn't won a time trial this year, but he came second to Martin Garrido in the prologue of the Tour of Normandy; third and second in the prologue and the long time trial of the Olympia Tour, sixth in the time trial of Tour de Lorraine. "I felt good last week in Portugal, that gave me a lot of ambitions for the Boucles de la Mayenne. Now I hope to keep the yellow jersey till the end."
Runner up Stéphane Barthe was more disappointed, since he went three seconds slower than last year. "I've seen there is still work to be done before the time trial French championship", the former Casino and US Postal rider commented. He came second two years ago and only ninth last year but he still sets his sights on the French title and was happy to beat the current champion Eddy Seigneur, who will not defend his jersey next week though, feeling too old for a tilt at defending his crown. Seigneur was fifth in Laval on Thursday night, and the race remains open to many possible GC contenders, although Rabobank placed five riders in the top 15.
