Australian team report

By Brian Stephens, AIS U23 coach

Only a week after Peter Dawson won a stage of the Giro Regioni, Aaron Kemps had his first win of the season in a bunch sprint. Today the AIS Mapei Aqua Australian team was in Asti for the Coppa Citta di Asti, run in pouring rain over 6 laps of a hilly circuit. The 200 rider field was split down to around 50 for the final run over wet cobbles to the finish. Aaron showed power and speed to win by 2 lengths from Daniele Colli making him the first foreigner to win the 70 year-old World Cup event.

Joining him in the Australian team for the event were Ashley Humbert (AIS/NSWIS), Richard Moffatt (AIS/NSWIS), Bernard Sulzberger and Nic Sanderson (AIS/VIS).
