Day 4 - June 18

Larsen dominating on day of tragedy

After three and a half days of racing since RAAM left San Diego on June 15, Allen Larsen is storming away with the race, putting almost two miles into his competition with every hour that passes/ Larsen continues to look strong despite the torrential rain that fell on him today as he passed through Oklahoma.

However, a pall was cast over Larsen's achievement this morning by the death of Team Vail-Go Fast rider Brett Malin. Brett was hit by a truck just after a racer change on the US 60 highway outside Pie Town, New Mexico at approximately 2.30AM EST.

Team Vail-Go Fast's support team includes Brett's father and brother Jamie. Jim Malin was able to give words of comfort to his son before the 30-year old cyclist passed, according to the RAAM official website. "Brett would have wanted this race to continue," said Jim Malin after the tragedy.
