Day 13 - July 23: Oneida Bingo & Casino Title Town Challenge

Schroeder Iron steely at Superweek

There have been a couple of constants at this year's International Cycling Classic. One is that Viktor Rapinski is dominating the overall competition. The second is that the Schroeder Iron team has played a hand in all of the winning moves over the past week. Rapinski took a night off at tonight's Oneida Bingo & Casino Title Town Challenge in Green Bay, but Schroeder Iron held to form when Pete Knudsen joined the winning breakaway and took the win on a beautiful evening for racing on a classic flat, four-cornered criterium course.

Several early attacks were pulled back by the field until an eight-man break jumped away with 20 laps remaining. All chase attempts failed and the break built a comfortable lead on the field in the closing laps. A last-lap attack by Ken Toman couldn't hold off the remaining seven riders, and it was Knudsen winning an all-out sprint over Nieko Biskner (Sierra Nevada-Clif Bar) and Carlos Vargas (Saturn Development).

Although he did not race tonight, Viktor Rapinski retains a commanding lead in the overall competition and Frank Pipp has a comfortable lead in the sprint points competition. Tomorrow's race is in Sheboygan at the Aurora Heritage Square Criterium.
