Klasa wins in tribute to first victor

Giuseppe Pagnoncelli won the first edition of the Bazzigaluppi, so it's fitting that the twentieth edition went to a rider on the team of which Pagnoncelli is patron: the Czech Peter Klasa.

Klasa out-sprinted Gabriele Bosisio of Team Aurora after an eventful 173km.

Mexican rider Sanchez started the action with an escape; he was soon joined by a group including Gavazzi, Macias, Gorfrey, Dyudya and Akoulintchev. This break built up a gap of 25 seconds before being caught at Castello d'Agogna.

The final selection came after 50km, when a group of 25 moved away from the main body of the race. At first it looked like the peloton would catch them, but the tight corners of the 30-lap finishing circuit demolished the rhythm of the pursuers, and splintered the lead group.

With one lap remaining it was down to six riders: Klasa, Bosisio, Cappa, Murro, Yakuschev and Dyudya. At the finish, Klasa was the one with the answers and the power.
