Wellington Veterans CC Short Course TT ChampsDecember 14, 2003The Wellington Veterans Cycling Club celebrated its 20th anniversary with an 18km time trial on the Liverton road circuit this weekend. It might well be called the Battle of Helms Deep, as the famous battle scene from the Lord of the Rings was filmed in the Dry Creek Quarry less than 100 metres from the top turnaround on the course. The conditions were blustery to say the least, so the course record of 24'37" remained intact for another year. 44 competitors took to the circuit with some of the original founding members of the club putting in an honourary lap. Lashings of salad and sausages followed the event accompanied by speeches on the origins of the club and a prizegiving for the fastest riders. PhotographyImages by Gary Milbanke
