Crowley CupKillarney, Co. Kerry, Ireland, April 17, 2005Dan Morrissey Carrick Wheelers treble in KillarneyBy Shane Stokes Dan Morrissey CC riders Timmy Barry, Martin O'Loughlin and Rory Wyley took a rare triple yesterday when they took the top places in the Crowley Cup, in Killarney, thus continuing the club's domination of Munster races this season. Barry was in the thick of the action from the start of the 60 mile race, going clear with John Gough (St. Finbarr's) from an approximate 40-man main bunch in the early stages. Gough dropped back shortly afterwards but Barry persisted to open up a minute's lead. O'Loughlin, Wyley and Kanturk Credit Union riders went clear at the climb of the County Bounds and joined up with Barry, opening a maximum lead of three minutes. With three Dan Morrissey Carrick riders in the four man lead group the result was never in question; Wyley went clear inside the last eight miles and while he was brought back by Lynch, Barry and O'Loughlin countered and built a good lead. The duo finished in that order, with Wyley jumping away from Lynch inside the final kilometre to take third. Michael Hennessy (Fermoy CC) and John O'Brien (Ballymore) were fifth and sixth. Meanwhile Killarney CC's Marcus Treacy came out best in the combined event for other categories, soloing in ahead of Maurice O'Brien (Kanturk Credit Union) and Sean McIlroy (Dan Morrissey Carrick Wheelers). McIlroy had gone clear with local rider John Crowley (Killarney C.C) shortly after the stage, being caught by Treacy at the top of the County Bounds climb. This trio was then joined by four others by Rathmore, making it a seven man lead group. McIlroy attacked on the return to Killarney and was joined by O'Brien and Treacy. After the trio opened up a 50 second lead, the latter attacked and cruised home for a fine win.
