Caplin Meehan Chartered Accountants Grand PrixPhoenix Park, August 22, 2004Nestor wins Caplin Meehan Park RaceBy Shane Stokes Junior rider Mark Nestor pulled off an impressive win against senior competitors in today's Caplin Meehan Chartered Accountants Grand Prix in the Phoenix Park. The Shannonside CC rider was actually second across the line but Colm Bracken (DHL Wallcycles Eurotrek) was ruled to have committed an infringement in the final sprint, resulting in his relegation. Aidan Crowley and Stephen O'Sullivan (both Cycleways Lee Strand) were second and third, with Adrian Hedderman (Murphy and Gunn) and Greg Swinand (Usher IRC) next home. Louise Moriarty (Dublin Skip - Les Jeunes) was first woman. Run off in cold, wet conditions, today's event took place over one hour and three laps. Several attempts were made to go clear but until the penultimate lap, nothing looked like sticking. Philip Finegan made a promising move in the closing stages but his chances were foiled after a collision with another rider, leading to his withdrawal. That set the scene for a bunch finish, with Bracken crossing the line ahead of Nestor but suffering his relegation soon afterwards.
