Results and reports from AustraliaPromoters wishing to submit results should send them to Cyclingnews Bendigo & District Cycling Club Mayfair Park Criteriums, February 3, 2008Lea Brothers do the DoubleBy Josef Stoltz Jacob Lea made his father a proudeman by taking out the A Grade contest from very classy field. Lea, who has only recently returned from a racing stint with Giant Asia in the Tour of Malaysia, skipped the field late in the race with young gun Pip Grinter. They were chased valiantly by Tony Fitzpatrick and Peter Ladd but Grinter and Lea had enough horse power to stay clear. Lea outfoxed Grinter on the line to do the double for dad. The C Grade Criterium was marked by the continued attacks from riders keen to make a breakaway stick. Spectator’s attention was also drawn to the clicking sound that appeared to be coming from Izaac Lea’s rear wheel. Many debated about whether it was tiny engine ticking away in his rear hub. Lea profited from confusion at the end of the race to take the sprint Andrew Creek and Bruce Tonkin. After a quick inspection of Lea’s bike, Chief Race Judge Petar Benjamin reported that Lea’s mysterious bike sound was in fact a speedo fault and not an engine after all, and declared Lea the winner. It was a sprinters delight in B Grade with the race smooth throughout it’s 30-minute journey. Dave Mannix proved once again that when the going gets tough, he gets going. Mannix ousted two of the best in Justin Leske and David Maltby for line honours.
