With many of the regular A Grade riders resting up ahead of the Bay-to-Bay Classic, the half a dozen starters joined the B Grade bunch to make a decent sized bunch; although both grades were racing for separate prizes. Two time Giro d'Italia rider Tom Leaper (Pro-Motion Bicycles) as expected made short work of the competition, bridging to an early break started by Paul Mason, Will Tehan (Specialized Total Rush) and B Grader Jason Kruger. With the quartet half a lap up on the bunch Tehan lost contact, but had little trouble plugging away to hold off the chasers and claim third place. Leaper left it to the final 10 minutes to open a gap over Mason and Kruger before powering clear to lap the main bunch in the closing stages. Mason took a well earned second place and finished with Kruger, who claimed an impressive B Grade win and more than likely an A Grade start for the summer crit season. Alex Lockie dominated the bunch sprint for second place in B Grade, with third place going Robert Koroknai's way after a late charge to sneak past Jason Gelsi. Blackburn youngsters took the honours in all three CCCC road handicaps this season, and while he may have missed out on those big pay days, Dale Reith continued the theme with a good win in C Grade, taking the sprint ahead of Josh Krause and Scott Lamprecht. Ross Donnan enjoyed the coveted 'first up win', proving too strong in his first race with a strong attack soon after the 'three to go' lap board was shown that saw him ride the bunch off his wheel for a solo win and an invitation to tackle C Grade next time round. Two of the club's up and coming juniors, Luke Parker and Nathan Corrigan, battled it out for the minor places in the bunch sprint, with Parker coming out on top. Christine Ervin (Quick Cycle Coaching) led the women home, ahead of Andrea Bishop.
