The course was twice over the Tharwa-Point Hutt - Tharwa loop, for a total of 35 km. Given the variety of riders and the fact that a great number of riders from both the ACT Vets club, CCC and Vikings were racing at the Cootamundra Haycarters event, handicapping was an 'interesting' exercise. The winners of the Brett Seaman Memorial Handicap, which was held recently over the same course, came from the limit bunch and ended up winning easily. This time the tables were turned and the A grade scratch riders caught the B grade group before the Point Hutt turn on the first lap. The race was one of attrition as it became a question of how long anyone could hang on to the A grade bunch. The race was won by Tom Palmer with the top ten riders mostly A or B graders, with the exception of Marc Roberts, a Vets club C grader who hung on for 10th place. All entry fees were either handed out in prize money or donated to the "Jenny McKenna" collection fund. Thanks must go to those place getters who donated their prize money to the Jenny McKenna fund. Jenny was seriously injured while competing in the recent Canberra Tour and remains in hospital. Tony Balzan, Jenny's partner, thanked all the clubs in Canberra for their ongoing support to him and all of Jenny's family who are here in Canberra at the moment.
