Results and Reports from AustraliaPromoters wishing to submit results should send them to Cyclingnews Australian Time Trial Association (ATTA)Calga, NSW - Sunday, May 6, 2007Peter McDonald smashes ATTA NSW 43km recordFresh off an impressive ride in the Canberra Tour where he placed 2nd in the TT and wore the leader's jersey for one day, Peter McDonald (FRF NSWIS) turned up to Calga along with a significant number of fellow Randwick Botany CC riders to compete in the well run ATTA NSW series. Peter was given extra motivation prior to the start of the 43km time trial when he was informed that the current course record was held by a Randwick Botany compatriot Adam Conquest in a time of 1'02"11. Adam is well known as one of Australia's best duathletes, he is also the holder of two ATTA NSW course records. Peter and Adam have developed a friendly rivalry over the years and knowing that ATTA NSW offers $100 cash for any new record Peter was extra pumped as he rolled into the starting ramp. Peter McDonald was the 10th rider to start however by the 21.5km turn around he had caught all but two of his competitors that had started in one minute intervals. In every time trial everyone has there own story to tell although on this occasion they all shared a tale of the sky blue tornado that blasted past them on one of the many climbs. I was privileged enough to follow Peter for a short period on his return journey and was impressed by his fluid action and effortless power over the tops of rolling climbs in the time trial position. With 7km remaining Peter had passed all that had started before him and stormed home to stop the clock in under hour (59'54) two minutes 17 seconds better than the previous record - simply amazing! In the other events it was the masters who taught a few lessons. The 12.5km event was won by 51 year-old Robert Chapman whilst the 25km course was won by current Australian Masters Champion Ross Hodgson.
