Nine eager Riverland Cycling Club members took part in the event bracing themselves for the strong winds that accompany any Sunday ride in Loxton. Hamish MacKirdy put down the paintbrush for a few hours to participate in the clubs 92km ride on the Loxton/ Alawoona/ Paruna roads. He joined Lee Stevens, Angus Boase, Mick Gray, Chris Stevens, Peter Weston, Janine Webb and Peter Evans in the main bunch. Riders had the chance to protect themselves against the strong head wind but by Paruna cracks were beginning to appear in the group. Lee may have pushed to hard from Renmark to Loxton with the head wind taking its toll whilst others just needed to relieve some pressure before continuing. John Eshman courageously took on the 92km's solo after the remaining eight riders took off from the start line. Eshman's slow and steady pace saw him battle the head wind to Alawoona without reprieve until he caught the field at Paruna. Un-fortunately with over 35km to go he was again dropped but Hamish kept his spirits up by joining him for a stint on the Paruna Road. The remaining kilometres from Alawoona were made easier by a cross-tail wind to get home but the last few climbs were still ahead and the wind advantage wasn't that great. All riders made it home successfully; even if it meant being chauffeured across the line. An enjoyable day for all involved, RCC fan Tyler Stevens watched the progress of the ride from the sag wagon and was more than happy for his dad to join him on the cruise back to Loxton.
