Results and Reports from AustraliaPromoters wishing to submit results should send them to Cyclingnews Port Fairy Cycling Club31km Road Race, May 29, 2004Mclaren & Spencer take chargeBy Kate Winnen Numbers were slightly down on Saturday for the cycling club’s race, held over the 31kms out and back course. With the usual back-markers absent the middle bunches were fairly even. In fact only one rider, John Medley, managed to catch the group in front of him. Local club legend Lou McLaren and Garry Spencer made the most of their generous 20 minutes start. Cruising to victory with plenty of time to spare. The scratch men were lead home by Tony Hose who grabbed fastest time honours from Nick Lee, Peter Murphy and Mark Hyland. However they failed to catch the 3-minute group. Which contained Neil Duncan, Peta Maher and Josh Cook. Again strong tail winds on the way home allowed riders to record high speeds. John Medley from the 6-minute bunch caught David Rae, Kate Winnen and Murray Turland in the final 6kms. But Lou and Garry already had the race well and truly under their control. Club newsThe annual Casterton ‘40’ is being held this coming Sunday. This prestigious race is held over a very hilly 64kms course and is part of the South West Road Series. Quite a few cycling club regulars are starting to show early season form. They are expected to perform very well, and climb the series aggregate. Other up coming inter-club events include the two day tour on Saturday June 12th and Sunday June 13th. The Hamilton to Port Fairy Road Race will be conducted on Sunday June 27th. There will be a club race at the Port Fairy Show grounds this Saturday, 5th of June. Starting at 2.00pm. Riders should get there early to assist the organisers and handicapper. The club is holding a rotating dinner on Saturday 17th of July. These nights are usually fun, social gatherings. Well worth attending.
